Bonjour, je m’appelle Lara Gillen. I have over twenty years experience in French and English language instruction. I have been speaking French all my life and have native like fluency. I have a BA in French from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec and received my teaching certification from Medaille College in Buffalo, New York. I am currently in my last semester of a graduate program at SFU on Diversity and Inclusion in the Immersion Program.
I have taught French Immersion and core French from Kindergarten to grade 8 in Ontario and B.C. I also taught intensive and core English in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and Montreal, where I lived for over ten years. I have been employed by the Burnaby School District Since 2013 and have worked in French and English learning support and ESL . I have been a contracted grade 5/6 French Immersion teacher at École Aubrey since 2017.
I have a passion for sharing my love of French language and culture. I am effective in establishing rapport with students and helping them build the confidence and skills needed to reach their goals. I teach using a multimodal approach, allowing students to access and demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways. My aim is to make learning engaging and fun. 😊
