Hailing from Red Deer, Alberta, David’s musical life began by taking piano lessons from his mother, as well as singing in an elementary school choir.  Once in middle school, he took a hiatus from piano and voice to explore saxophone and drums.  He ended up playing drums in the rhythm section of his high school choirs, at which point his love of piano and voice was reignited.  After high school, David left Western Canada to attend the School for Music Vocations in Iowa.  It was here that David developed a passion for jazz piano and voice, as well as small ensemble vocal jazz singing. David went on to complete a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in Jazz performance at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, focussing on voice and piano. While at St. FX, he also sang and played shows in a variety of student-led projects, ranging from beatboxing (a natural merging of his love of voice and percussion) in a hip-hop group, to playing synthesizers and keyboards in a Funk band.  He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University in Newfoundland, before settling in the Greater Toronto Area. He has spent the past 7 years touring the globe with his internationally recognized a cappella groups Cadence (Toronto) and Duwende (New York City), with whom he has appeared on America’s Got Talent, opened for Jay Leno, and performed with artists such as Bobby McFerrin and David Clayton-Thomas. He has also toured with the multi-grammy winning group, The Swingles. When not on the road, David enjoys keeping his fingers in many different musical pies by singing in choirs, playing keyboards in a Sci-Fi funk band, working as a singer-for-hire for touring groups, and adjudicating, teaching or workshopping choirs and school groups in the GTA.
